Final Evaluation

Draft of Evaluation

For my evaluation i will create it on prezi. Prezi is online software that is avalible for use for students, its a far more exciting media than a power point. Its easier to use and the graphics are smoother and more professional looking.

This is what i have done so far, i have added some of the images that will go along with the narative of the presentation, the photos will help me explain what i mean when im answsering the questions. I have started writing the descriptions and adding the titles, i still need to finish answering the first question and answer the other three questions.

To increase my marks and to show i can use different medias i am going to film a focus group and get them to give there opinions of the videos, with what worked well and what didnt work so well. I will add this as a youtube video in the slideshow so it can be played in the powerpoint.

I will also talk over the power point reading out whats on the slides and expanding on what is written down, this means i can explain more effectively how im answering the questions.

No- 0

Focus group summary

Miss dobbs highlighted that my digipak photos are all far too similar and i need to have diffrent photos on there, so in my focus group i asked them if i should take more photos in a woodland location or in a studio enviroment like many of my researched digipaks had. Four out of five said i should take some photos in a studio, i will do this as soon as possible and edit and upload the results and implement the best photos into my digipak. I will replace the lyrics page and the back page with one of theese photos. Miss dolby also highlighted that i need to film more shots as some of them dont work together very well and the transactions arent smooth, and they become very repetetive. Especially towards the end where there should be a climax and all thats shown is repeated locations and angles. The focus group was quite torn between filming more shots in the woods or in a bedroom so i think i will film some of both and add them in where it looks best. this will give my music video far more variety and wont be repetetive. There is a scene that miss dobbs mentioned that i should remove, so i asked my focus group and four of them voted in favour of removing the scene with jenni having a conforsation on the phone, i will remove this scene and replace it with a new shot im going to film. In some parts of my music video i have added some effects and tints over the top of the shot to make it look more interesting and exciting, this proved popular and all five of my focus group voted in favour of adding more of theese effects, i will definatly do this as i think it makes the video look more proffesional and gives it a cleaner finish.

Mrs D

This is a good draft Drew. You have some effective transitions at times and the use of the 'past' section works well. However, it is a little repetitive at times - don't forget about the repeatability factor. Also some of your transitions aren't at the best times - at about a minute in the tone changes, yet you don't change the shot. You also need to be more creative with your use of images in your digipak. They are too similar. Keep up the good work and check level 3 and 4 criteria carefully.

Music video second draft

What to do for third draft
After taking in feedback from my focus group i have realised that some parts are repetetive, and towards the end of the video where it should be a climax there are repeated shots that dont represent the tempo change of the song. Also in certain parts the lipsinging doesnt match the song and it doesnt look professional so im going to re-film theese. On my third day of filming im going to film some footage of some of the begining verses as im not happy with the way the lips match the song, and im going to film some end couruses so match the climax of the song.

Filming day two

The seond part of my filming will be the shots of her in her bedroom, the first shots were the outside parts in the woods, theese will go in between them and bring everything together. For this shoot i am using the same HD camera as i used before so the quality of the footage is continuious thoughout. I got jenni to lie on and bed and look into the camera and sing the words, this is what i wanted to achieve as lying on her bed creates the effect that shes sad and thinking about things. I also shot some parts of jenni wrighting hearts in the window, this will go well inbetween and help as a esablishing shot for the bedroom scenes. The mobile phone scenes are filmed over the sholder and have a close up of her delclining her ex boyfriends phone calls, this turned out exactly how i wanted it to on my storyboard. The other shots of her looking out the window worked well, they look good with the shots on the other side of the window and creates a good contrast from two points of view.

Now i have filmed this footage i have to cut it together with what ive already put together and add transitions and editing tecniques and taking into conicderation miss dolby and dobbs comments. The video should be finished within a matter of days.

Dolby

The singer is good and the lip synching is good. Definately would add in some more editing techniques- match the visuals to the music as well as the lyrics so it is more 'punchy' and effective rather than drawn out.

Dolby

I agrre that the advert works, as for the digipak, the images are all very similar. Can you use a range of diiferent shot types/views to show skill and maybe some other imagery linked to the artist and/or genre?

Music video progress

This is my first draft of my music video, the editing is a rough draft and there is still much more to be done. The blank parts are where my second section of filming will go.

digipak progress

I have added the inside page of the digipak, i used similar photos to the magazine advert and the digipak front and back page to give a continuious style. I made the photo black and white, this makes the photo look more serious as the song is quite serious it fits well. I used the same font as i used in the magazine advert and thoughout the digipak, this makes the whole product fit together well instead of it being odd colours. I put the lyrics on the left side as after looking at research i noticed thats normally where the lyrics would go. I have also added the spine to the digipak, this is a gradiant black colour, i thought black would go well as it doent clash with anything else on the digipak and its easy to read. I used the same font as i used before on the spine but made it more white so it stands out more.
After making the stars smaller i decided to change the position the the reviewers name as i think it made the advert look un even on the page.

after taking miss dobbs's commets into conicderation i agreed and saw that the reviews are taking up quite alot of space. We decided that the stars were too big and it made the advert look clutterd. I also changed the position of the reviewers name on the top review, this looked better than it did before.

Mrs D

The magazine advert is effective Drew. I think you could work a little more on the integration of text and image towards the top. There is a band of empty space above her head that could be filled a little more.

Digipak progress

I Have added the tracklist to the digipak template, i am using the same font as i used in my magazine advert for the date and title and the same font as im using in the digipak front cover. This gives the advert and digipak a reconisable house style that makes the products look like their together and more continuious.

For the second pain i used similar photos to the ones i used on the front of the digipak and on the magazine advert, this means that the whole package fits together and is easily reconisable. I looked at my research and added some of the elements that would be on the back of a real digipak. The barcode is often in a bottom corner, so i have done the same. There is often the logo of the music lable in the bottom of the page, this shows listeners what music lable she is signed too.

Magazine advert progress

Miss Dolby also pointed out that i should have the record lable name on the magazine advert somewhere as most adverts for digipaks would include this. I have put it in the bottom right hand corner of the advert as i think this is where most real digipak adverts would put it.

After taking Miss dolbys comments into concideration i realised that as the magazine advert is a advert for the digipak the title of the album is essencial. I put it underneith the main title in the same front as the release, i think this contrasts well with the main logo as the font is less bold.

Friday, 4 November 2011

Dolby

Just have a play with layout so you can see the copy on the dark background or change font colour. Also, have an album name and company details.

Magazine advert progress

After taking miss dobbs comments into conicderation i realised the date on the magazine advert looked out of place and too bold, and it didnt fit the style. I have now changed the font i used before and used a more simplistic style without and bold white background.

Digipak final progress

I have used similar photos to the ones on the magazine advert, i think it fits quite well as the songs are meaningful and emotional so having a close up view of her face means the consumers can connect with her more. The main logo matches that of the magazine advert and the additional wrighting on the page is the same is what i used on the magazine advert aswell giving a continuious style.

Mrs D

The image works well Drew and the font on the writing at the top is effective - alhough you can't read the info on the left. Your font on the date is very 'strong' - does it fit with the mes of the image? Keep the drafts coming.

Magazine advert final progress

Digipak progress with images

I have used a similar photo to the one i have used on the magazine advert, this gives both products a house style. I have used the same font as the one i used on the magazine advert, I think this font is effective as it stands out against the photo.

Mrs D

These pictures look good. Try and get some drafts of ancilary up soon.

Editing progress.

The first part of my filming was succsessfully completed, i am now in the editing process and putting together the shots in time with the music. Miss dobs had a look at my progress so far and said that the miese on scene was good, but i should represent the main charactor in the shot distances better.

Tuesday, 18 October 2011

Mrs D

The font and layout look effective. You need to get the image in soon as it may change the layout conciderably.

Filming progress

My filming will start on tuseday the 18th of october, i plan to film all the scenes in the woods, on the side of the road, the front door, lounge window and bedroom. I will ensure that i film moore footage than i need so there isnt any pauses in the finished video and if the scenes arent long enough. I will then edit and upload my first draft by friday 21st of october.

Final font choice.

I will be using this font on the front and thoughout parts of the digipak including the back and the inside booklet. I will also be using this on my magazine advert, this will help create a continious pattern and house style thoughout the products.

Mrs D

This is much better Drew and you use repetition effectively. I look forward to seeing some rough cuts soon. Remember to film a little more than you think you need to so you have additional scenes to help you with the editing process.

Final storyboard video

Dolby

I think you need to make the cuts much sharper here; make the visuals match the music and help you drive the narrative. Also , work on transitions and other techniques such as zooms.

Final storyboard draft

Dolby

Black and white is fine and can be effective but how are you going to 'brand' your artist if it is that plain? and does it suit the genre of music?

Thursday, 6 October 2011

I have decided to keep the colour of the font black as my questionnaire showed that easy to read and simple colours stand out the best on magazine adverts and digipaks.

Mrs D

You have some good ideas here Drew. I look forward to seeing your final draft of your storyboard soon. Are you just using black and white on the font for your ancillary tasks?

Story board second draft

Favorite two fonts

After asking some of my peers they decided that these two fonts are the best ones for me to use.
The first font looks smart and would really stand out when i used it on the digipak and the magazine advert. The straight lines and the tallness of the font makes the artist look stylish and sophisticated. I like the second font font becuase its tall and it will stand out well against the photo background on the front of my digipak and magazine advert. This font has more personality than the first one as its more curved and qwerky looking rather than all straight lines.

Font ideas

I have chosen theese fonts becuase i wanted to go for a simple, easy to read yet stylish look. This font is easily reconisable and when people see it they will know straight away what its about. I liked the bold tall letters i think it looks classy and wont look tacky up against the photo of the artist.

Tuesday, 4 October 2011

Mrs D

Some of your ideas are effective. However, I would like to see more visual links to the lyrics and the tone of the music - there is a moment towards the end where you have used a two shot and the tone of the music changes considerably - you need to reflect this in terms of a shot transition or change of pace. Have a look at some other storyboards for help and go back to RMAs and count how many shots they have and how you can use repetition effectively. Needs more technical transitions to get into the higher bands. You have excellent knowledge of moving image and use of camera etc - use it.

Monday, 3 October 2011

Storyboard second draft

After taking miss dolbys comments in to conicderation i decided that a zoom animation to help show how the shot will look would be beneficial as it will help explain how the final shot will look.

Dolby

Drew. Add in the effects of zoom etc so i can see how the effects are going to work. Also, I would think about maybe superimposing when lyrics mention 'you' so we can link lyrics to visuals. Make it really easy for the viewer to follow narrative with obvious ideas.

Story Board first draft

Focus group

After listening to the song, and seeing the story board should i have a dance routine in my video?

My initial questionnaire showed me that dance routines in music videos are very popular, so i got together the same people i used for my earlier focus group and asked them after hearing the song and looking at the story board if a dance routine would be apropreate. All five of them said it wouldnt be apropreate as the speed of the song wouldnt match the dances and it would just look out of place.
Filming schedule. Wednesday 26th October

9.00am

Jenni turns up and does her hair and make up to match what i want in the video, and puts on the appropriate clothing.

5.00

Final scenes of the Friends sitting on bed eating the cakes and scenes of the friends leaving the house and Jenni again being left alone to think about how much shes missing her ex.

6.00-6.15 Finish filming video.
Locations for filming

I have chosen to film the majoraty of the music video in my friend Emilys house, i have chosen to do this becuase i feel her bedroom is the perfect size and layout for the look im trying to achieve, she has a large roof window that lets in alot of light, this will be perfect for the beginning shots when Jenni is sitting on the bed thinking about the ex boyfriend and dismissing his phone calls. Emily also has a large double bed, this will be perfect for when Jenni friends come round and comfort her over her recent breakup. Throughout the video i will be cutting to shots of Jenni walking though woods, this shot will help show that she is very sad about this, as often when people have alot on there mind they go though walks in peaceful places. My house backs on to large woods, it has beautiful large trees and winding paths, the sun often comes though the trees and this will look lovely on screen, so i will be filming thees shots there. Towards the end of the video where Jenni friends are trying to cheer her up and help her take her mind off the boyfriend, they make cupcakes in the kitchen. I want to use my friend Emilys kitchen again as she has a nice vintage looking kitchen with a seating area, this will be perfect as there is pleanty of room for everyone to fit and i can set up some nice close up shots of the cakes. I have asked permission to use Emilys house and there is a Email from her in a earlier post showing she has agreed to this.

Digipak Plan

Digipak plan ideas

Final digipak plan

This is the inside of the digipak and this is what i want the layout to look like. I want to continue the simplistic classy look from the advert though to the digipak. Im going to use similar images and the same fonts in both, this will give a continuous style and help to create a brand for the artist. The front cover is souly taken up by a photo of the artist, i think its important to include this as in my questionnaire i found out that the most important thing to they wanted to see on the front of a digipak was a image of the artist, as what the artist looks like is just as important as what they sound like. In a large font, the same font used on the magazine advert im going to have the title of the artist. This will also become the artist logo that will be used on backdrops and other merchandise. Underneath the main title im going to have the title of the album in a thinner smaller more simple font so it doesn't take the spotlight away from the artist name. After researching some digipaks i have seen that most pop music albums are simply laid out in order to efficiently and stylishly show whos album it is. The back of the digipak is going to have the same style and colour usage as the front cover did. The track list is going to be in the middle of the page in a centered line from top to bottom. This means the tracklist is easy to see. The background and taking up the rest of the space will be a zoomed out slighly different photo to whats on the front showing a woodland setting, with the artist sitting in the corner. This means the space for the track list is trees, enabling the white font to show up well. The bar code will go in the bottom right hand corner, i don't want it to be too big otherwise it will obstruct the photo too much. The additional information like, credits, details of music label will be in a very small font at the very bottom of the picture, this means it doesn't take the simple look away from the digipak. The two inside pages are going to consist of half song lyrics and half a photo of the artist, in my questionnaire i found out that the target audience i focused on wanted to see more photos of the artist inside the digipak as they want to see what the artist is wearing and what there stance is like. This may be because they look up to them and may want to copy the artists style, the second most popular option was for the inside of the digipak to feature song lyrics, this will enable the fans of the artist to learn the words of there favorite songs. Putting thees two options together in a half and half way continues the simplistic sophisticated look that's been carried on from the magazine advert and though the whole digipak.
